The Tropical Artists Guild (TAG) was located at 142 Grafton Street, Cairns. This space comprised artist studios, gallery, cafe, cinema and events venue. TAG published the ARI DIY zine “Son of TAG” designed by artist designer Robert Munday.

ARTISTs/ARIs CALLOUT – BLOG POST STORY WITH IMAGES & CAPTIONS CONTRIBUTIONS 2026
Much like Queensland/Australian ARIs, humour comes in many forms. In this third and final online/offline project we invite thirty [or more] new artists’/ARIs’ memory contributions. Up to 1600 words, up to 12 images with captions.

Archival art projects are rarely funded in Queensland, Australia and around the globe so we have soft launched a new fundraising initiative to support this third iteration, NAVA scale artist fees and essential small-scale digitisation, optimisation processes, ongoing digital infrastructure and new story content costs.
This ‘ARIs Revisited’ series is a little bit frisky. And in this last ever-cheeky, humour-fuelled stage we adventure deeper, deeper into a very different Australian landscape; the main streets, malls, back streets, alleys, laneways, coastlines, islands, rooftops and reactivated spaces to discover the daring artists, artist groupings, visionaries, punks, rebels and rock stars who have pushed against convention in life, art and sociality.
Places where art and humour are vital, and often help provide an antidote to tribulations, naysayers, gloom, doom and despair.
Here, we re-visit people, sites, activations and spaces where humour is truly transformative.
