Making Space was a publication made to accompany a major festival involving more than 20 artist groups across Victoria. It was the first publication of its kind in Australia to document the history of artist-run initiatives, and to publish a range of critical discourses that were taking place at the time.

The book included a number of commissioned academic essays, extensive interviews with founding members, and featured more than two decades of photo documentation from independent art galleries and collectives. The book and festival were launched at Platform in April 2007 by the Federal Minister for the Arts and the Director of the Australia Council for the Arts.

Making Space was developed with support of hundreds of artists, the Australia Council for the Arts, the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy, and Arts Victoria. digital version below.
