“Memento Vivere #1 (East Village People Remix)

My queer assemblage-like installations often encompass an ‘artist’s studio transplant’ where I relocate aspects of my own studio, ARI collection and lived experiences of ‘queer time’ into a different place or space. In this photo, my artist friend and colleague Hollie is gazing inside the collection of hot pink archives boxes, peeking through the voids or archival ‘glory holes’ into small collections of artist’s ephemera featured inside each of the boxes. I included a Super 8mm to Digital video artwork of early artist-run activity in New York in 1988 with AXIS Art Project artist colleagues Lehan Ramsay and Jay Younger.

A year earlier while attending an Art and Archive conference at the Monash University Prato Centre, turned out to be a unique overseas opportunity for meeting and talking with artists from Tripla ARI in Bologne, this was indeed, a memorable and life changing experience. In 2018, a year after this trip to Italy, we made a video artwork ‘remotely’ drawing on long conversations to share and include in the Nature Strip installation staged by artist Erika Scott at The Soylent Spot, Red Hill, Brisbane Magandjin.
