(Re)Presenting – Artist Self-Publishing – Artist Books Zines & Artist Ephemera – Barjai : a meeting place for youth [Zine] Brisbane : Barjai Publishing Service, 1943-1946

Artists’ books, artist zines and related forms of artist self-publishing are generally considered to be books that are made by artists and intended to be viewed as works of art.

This ongoing series foregrounds examples of digital copies of past, recent and current artists’ books, artist zines and artist self-publishing produced by artist groups, artist collectives and artist-runs in Australia post 1940.

Barjai (‘meeting place’), a Brisbane-based magazine for literature and art aimed at a young audience, shared and supported their ideals.
