QUOTES

“Virginia Barratt: So sorry to hear about Frank’s passing. He was a brilliant diamond, cutting into my youth at Seven Hills TAFE (the Brisbane art school that later became QCA). My 3rd year, when I was majoring in printmaking, was spent making etchings of the forces around me. Mostly, that meant the people I hung out with in 1981. I turned 20 that year but Frank I think was still technically a teenager (though I suspect he was never that). By the time I made Frank’s portrait, I was ready to learn “spit bite” – a particular kind of aquatint where nitric acid is mixed with your own spit (if I’m remembering correctly Russell Craig?) and brushed onto the plate. I’ve only recently been reunited with these old etchings from my Brisbane art school days. Frank: I’ll always remember you as a beautiful boy, with spit and bite. Go well darling one.”
