Hello and a big hearty thankyou everyone who kindly popped along to Pink Elephant Revisited yesterday at Loupe Studio in Yeerongpilly, on the lands of Turrbal and Jagera peoples. Fine company, good conversation and stimulating discussion. The thorny and enduring question of artists and ARIs not having a fixed address was one of many subjects of intense afternoon dialogue and community engagement. Arts policy is currently not fit for purpose, in Queensland and elsewhere. Rental and inner city spaces for independent ARIs, artist studios and community-driven arts and culture phenomena is an urgent and essential concern. Thanks to the many ARI elders 1984 to Now who generously offered keen insights, perspectives and reflections as young artists and ARIs imagine, reimagine, energise and activate the emerging culture of local 21st century ARIs.
