Brisbane Writer’s Festival | BWF ‘Zine Market’ May 7 2022 | Soft Launch of ARI REMIX PRESENTS | The EXTRA Zine Project | An ARI Zine Anthology 2022-2026

Ad hoc DIY zine and zine making is an essential creative practice element of the ARI REMIX PROJECT [2011-2022].

In January 2021 in the Covid-19 environment drawing on past zine practice experiences at ARI REMIX we started working on a new art zine series to help grow, expand and augment ARI Remix into futurity and contingency.

EXTRA Zine is conceptualized as a way to help explore zine practice and to make art zines as a type of community archive. EXTRA Zine aims to draw from artist collections, personal archives and lived experiences – past, present and future- with Queensland/ Australian artist-run communities. By gathering together examples of ‘at risk’ artists’ ephemera, writing a complementary little story and describing images represented in the zine is potentially an affective way to represent and narrate these intersecting community-based experiences, resources, collective memories and more…

The last 12 months has been loads of fun making art zines in a modest short form A5 format and more recently into a longer-form A4 format.  This May we are thrilled and delighted to announce we have secured arts investment from Arts Queensland for a twelve month project to further develop EXTRA Zine and to explore zine practice in an explicitly collaborative way.

Following hot on the heels of participating in the National Gallery of Victoria Melbourne Art Book Fair in March we are participating in the Brisbane Writer’s Festival ZINE MARKET on Saturday May 7 – 2pm-5pm- 2022. We will be there alongside a group of enthusiastic paper creatives to showcase examples of the art zines process so far [digital and soon to be easily downloadable in an online PDF form] and to soft launch;
