We’re thrilled to welcome Sydney based artist Jayanto Tan to kick off our 2026 exhibition program!
⏰️ Sunday February 15, from 2pm
📍1/37 Ethel St, Yeerongpilly
“Jayanto Tan is an accomplished artist whose practice spans ceramics, installation, cooking, performance and community workshops. Deeply autobiographical, his work draws on his lived experiences growing up as a Chinese Indonesian in North Sumatra, and his subsequent move to Gadigal and Wangal Country (Sydney). His work touches on themes of loss, displacement, reconciliation and reclamation, but at its core, is about sharing and connecting with others.” (Elena Dias-Jayasinha, Curator, Museum of Brisbane)
Presented in collaboration with the Museum of Brisbane and BrisAsia Festival, and coinciding with Lunar New Year, Jayanto will launch his book ‘Rainbow Miniature Series’ at Loupe Studio alongside a vibrant exhibition and community celebration. The afternoon will open with a Q&A conversation between Jayanto and curator Elena Dias-Jayasinha, followed by a curry cooking performance and an open karaoke session.
The exhibition will feature a participatory photo mural, and Jayanto warmly invites community contributions. Visitors are encouraged to submit images of treasured objects and personal memories. Please email images to loupestudio.au@gmail.com and we will print them for inclusion in the mural.
We look forward to welcoming you to Loupe Studio for an afternoon celebrating art, culture, food, and karaoke!
In addition, Jayanto will host an origami lantern-making workshop at @museumofbrisbane on Saturday, February 14, 10am–4pm, as part of BrisAsia Festival 2026. This is a free drop-in workshop, and all are welcome.
