MAAP, established in 1998, is an international arts organization based in Brisbane Australia that presents contemporary art exhibitions, seminars and projects. MAAP explores contemporary art across a range of art forms and practices including digital and electronic art forms such as video installation, online art, interactive multimedia, and art projects integrating a range of media.

MAAP INCLUDES…
… an ongoing program of special international collaborations. In addition a rich history of exhibitions were held at MAAP SPACE, the gallery program that featured regular curated exhibitions of media art from Australia and the Asia Pacific region. MAAP Media Bank, AV lending and support service to artists, generated over 1.6 million AUD dollars of commercial hire value to support artists projects in its ten years of operation.
For 20 years, MAAP has supported, generated, exchanged and collaborated on hundreds of projects with major international partners in Australia and abroad. Our timeline provides a snapshot of this rich project history.
MAAP has collaborated with gallery, museums, public institutions and in public art environments, including at the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Reuters Video Wall, Times Square, New York; National Art Museum of China; Singapore Art Museum; the China Millennium Monument Art Museum; Queensland Art Gallery; the State Library of Queensland; the Shanghai Library; the National Library of China; OCAT Shanghai; Guangdong Museum of Art; ArtSonje Center, Seoul and others.
With the organisation based in Brisbane, MAAP is also committed to supporting Queensland artists in the production, presentation and promotion of their work both locally and overseas.
HISTORY
MAAP was conceived as a not-for-profit cultural organisation and was registered as Incorporated Association in 1998 and is a Cultural Organisation registered with the Australian Tax Offcie DGR -Deductable Gift Recipient The organisation was established to bring focus to “unmapped” media art activity from Australia, Asia and the Pacific. Between 1998 and 2006, MAAP cultivated an international reputation for annual and biannual media art festivals. In all, MAAP produced 7 international media art festivals across Brisbane, Beijing and Singapore, encompassing collaboration and representation from 14 countries. MAAP explores media art through critical exhibition and research initiatives that engage the region’s major and emerging practitioners and producers.
MAAP projects have commissioned new work and exhibited many of the region’s most important contemporary media artists, including: Shilpa Gupta, YOUNG-HAE CHANG HEAVY INDUSTRIES, Zhang Peili, Wang Gongxin, Zhu Jia, Yang Zhenzhong, Wang Peng, Feng Mengbo, Charles Lim (tsunami.net), *CANDYFACTORY PROJECTS, and Kimsooja. MAAP programs have presented international artists within its projects including Yves Klein, Jan Dibbets, Patty Chang and David Kelley, SUPERFLEX, Yeondoo Jung, and Heimo Zobernig.
MAAP – Multimedia Art Asia Pacific Inc (MAAP) is the registered name of the organisation. On the 15th year of operation 2012, MAAP switched its trading name to MAAP Media Art Asia Pacific.
