Outer Space | Mallrats (2022) by Phoebe Paradise launches next Friday, June 24 2022

Mallrats (2022) by Phoebe Paradise launches next Friday, June 24, as part of Outer Space’s 2022 digital projection public art program Outer Face.

The life and times of multidisciplinary artist Phoebe Paradise are deeply rooted in the subcultural happenings of Meanjin, Brisbane. In Mallrats (2022), Paradise’s distinguished visual lexicon transmutes the often other-worldliness of gig-hopping in Fortitude Valley into towering characters splayed across the Judith Wright façade. Paradise’s loyalty to Brisbane’s dark sublime is not accidental: rather, it is one that pays debt to scores of generations who were dragged out of their homes for daring to look and act differently in the heavily policed “Sunshine State”.

The works in Outer Face are on display every evening between 5:30pm – 11:30pm across the building façade of the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts – home of the Outer Space Gallery.
