CONTEXTUAL INFO
“An experimental super 8 film I made in 1982.
The film was self-processed using dodgy chemicals, resulting in no images, just a lot of brown muck which I liked the look of when projected. So, I hand-coloured the 50ft of film using marker pens for overhead transparencies (the ‘powerpoint’ of the day).
The soundtrack is slowed down loops of styrofoam beans being dropped onto a concrete floor – a really tiny sound, mic’d and amplified to create something from nothing.
I made various films like this as ‘anti-film’ projects, inspired by dada ideals, abstract expressionist painting philosophies, situationist proposals and notions of the readymade as art.
This film was originally screened in evenings staged by artist filmmakers in Sydney, Australia. It was made to be projected.”
