CONTEXTUAL INFO

That Contemporary Art Space a.k.a That or That Space was organised and run by That Collective ( a changeling collective over four years) in an old light industrial warehouse with clerestory, upstairs area with kitchen, toilet and loading bay, artist studios and loft storage. Downstairs was the large gallery which opened in May 1985 and in June 1987 the storage space also known as “the garage” also located on ground level was opened as That Annexe for installations and one night or short term projects and events. The garage space of one nighter’s and two or three day events was largely organised by artist Belinda Gunn and the That Collective, Belinda Gunn partnered with artist David Holden in 1988 and together they opened Arch Lane Public Art artist-run off Macrossan Street, at the end of Adelaide Street, which in turn became another 1980s Brisbane arts precinct, including Arch Lane, Bellas Gallery, public art events and performances and artist studios.
