About the book:

The Art Project is an essential guide to commissioning art for public spaces and producing meaningful corporate art collections.

With the simple subtext, ‘How to manage an art project or build an art collection that your community will engage with and love’, The Art Project is Colliver’s second publication.

Drawing on more than two decades of extensive experience in the art world, Colliver has written a comprehensive handbook for councils, corporate bodies and developers. The Art Project clarifies the complexities of commissioning art in the public realm, to assist in the process of implementing an art project from start to finish.

“In writing this book, I wanted to demystify the processes involved in a successful art project, showing that art can be attainable, no matter who is behind the implementation. Art can feel inaccessible and exclusive to people who haven’t explored it before, so I wanted to break down these barriers and illustrate that art is for everyone” says Colliver.

The Art Project simplifies the process of commissioning public art, the development of placemaking ideas, commissioning artists for developments and how to write a successful art strategy.

“The arts have been decimated in recent years due to Covid-19, so in order to see the industry return to how it was prior to the pandemic, the arts need to be present, accessible and visible. I hope this book can be a catalyst for change in a small and tightly guarded art world, which begins by bridging the gap between corporate entities, public spaces and the arts.”

The Art Project is Colliver’s second book. In 2020, Colliver published Making Art Matter, which sought to build a bridge between artists and organisations, governments and the corporate world, with comprehensive insights into the art world and how artists work.

The Art Project is now available for purchase from leading retailers. RRP $35.00.
