ABOUT
Rebecca Ross lives and works on Queensland’s Gold Coast where she works as an artist, an academic at Queensland College of Art Griffith University and Southern Cross University, and as Artistic Director of The Walls Art Space which she founded in 2013. Rebecca completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts (1998) and Master of Fine Art (2005) at Queensland University of Technology. She has undertaken public art and curatorial commissions locally including major projects for Festival 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Metricon Stadium, Gold Coast University Hospital and Robina Health Precinct. Rebecca has exhibited internationally in the U.S.A., New Zealand, Malta and Italy, and has participated in international artist in residence programs in Malta (Gozo, Valletta), Italy (Rome, Venice) and New Zealand (Auckland, Wellington). Rebecca was an inaugural recipient of the Brisbane City Council Lord Mayor’s Young and Emerging Artists’ Fellowship (2004), was awarded the Rome Studio at the British School at Rome by the Australia Council for the Arts (2012), and has received Career Development Grants from Arts Queensland and the Regional Arts Development Fund Gold Coast on numerous occasions including a mentorship (2015) to travel to Los Angeles and Miami, USA. Her work has been shown internationally including at the Embassy of Australia in Washington D.C. U.S.A. in 2012 and at the British School at Rome in 2013. Rebecca serves on the boards of The Walls Art Space and the Tugun Progress Association, and practices surfing in her spare time.

Curatorially and collaboratively Rebecca has worked on projects with an array of artists, artsworkers and arts organisations including Domenico De Clario, Anna Carey, Abbey McCulloch, Clark Beaumont, Scott Redford, David Broker, Mariam Arcilla, Byron Coathup, Soda_Jerk, Queensland Film Festival, Screen Queensland, National Association for the Visual Arts, Institute of Modern Art, Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Maverick Art Space, Testing Grounds, Home of The Arts, City of Gold Coast, Queensland College of Art Griffith University, Museum of Brisbane and Bleach Festival. Her knowledge of working in and with Artist Run Initiatives is extensive and includes exhibitions with Boxcopy Contemporary Art Space, Stable A.R.I., Level, Outer Space, Blindside, JJ Morgan & Co., Development A.I.R., and Screen Space.
