SLQ is archiving Imagery Gallery History in 2016

Imagery Gallery, run by artists Ruby and Doug Spowart opened in South Brisbane on March 28th 1980 and closed in June 1995. During these years Imagery held 205 diverse exhibitions by 1135 emerging and well established international, Australian and Queensland photographers; organised 34 tours to out back Australia and various overseas countries from 1982; developed workshops and seminars; sold photographic equipment (eg. LEICA and Sinar cameras, Kodak products, books, magazines); and became a meeting place for those interested in photography.

This year the State Library of Queensland is in the throes of archiving the Imagery Gallery archives. You can view the link below. Congratulations Ruby and Doug Spowart these neglected histories we are addressing here directly via ariremix.com.au are slowly being transformed into public, educational and study resources. And thanks to the State Library of Queensland team for paying acknowledgement and attention to Queensland artist-run heritage, we are truly grateful.
