SUMMER PLUNGE | ARI REMIX + EXTRA ZINE Newsletter | Summer 2023 | Issue # 9 | (Re) Presenting 2020-2024 | Celebrating Thirteen Years of Collaborative Memory Work | give or take 42 fabulous queer years…
Hello. Happy Summer 2023!
We wish you good health and happiness this Festivus season! .
As you may already know this year we are continuing the important community-based memory work which emphasizes Queensland / Australian ARIs, artist groupings and artist collectives 1970 to NOW in today’s archival multiverse. Today artist-run spaces and artist-run initiatives form part of a much broader ecology of informal and independent artist groupings, artist collectives, artist cooperatives and allied communities. A participatory, pluralising, democratising and DIY ethos is often an essential characteristic of these communities of practice. Artist-run activity helps maintain a level playing field in today’s contemporary art sector.
This expanded and expanding internet artwork presented as a ‘living archives’ cultural form continues chugging along well in 2023. During 2022-2024 we are growing and nuancing ARI REMIX with memory zines made by 40 artists. You can easily access, discover and freely download many of the completed ARI memory zines – in a collectable PDF webzine form – in the link below:
Meanwhile here is a selection of news items from 2023 along with recent examples of archival zine and zine making practice we employ to recast, remix and represent culturally diverse ARI experiences, memories, collections of artists’ ephemera and narratives in the present cultural moment.
A big hearty THANK YOU to all colleagues, peers, artists, ARIs and allies for their kind and generous participation in 2022- 2024. Enjoy this summer plunge selection. See you next time with the autumn 2024 edition.
A wee reminder for all artist and ally participants that the next soft deadline for memory zines [PDFs] comprising archival text and images is Wednesday 31 January 2024. Your zines and/or contents [between 600 – 1500 words and up to 12 to 20 JPG images 1200pixels] can be emailed to me here: info[at]ariremix.com.au
I am currently on QUT doctoral research leave and away from phone and email until Wednesday 31 January, 2024.
Best wishes for a healthy, peace-loving and fun-filled Summer 2023-2024 . Happy New Year 2024.
Paul Andrew

The ARI Remix collective acknowledges and respects the traditional and ongoing custodians of the lands where we live, make and work. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging, and acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded. We support the Uluru statement from the heart.
ARI Remix is an archival art initiative, in a ‘living archives’ form; LGBTQIA+, cis, non-binary, trans and BIPOC inclusive, and involves active participation and collaborative collecting engagement by artists, art workers, co-creatives, peers and artist groups. It is an enthusiast-led, community-based, non-profit and art ephemera study resource and Web 2.0 internet art work [net art] #ariremix. It is made entirely possible through immense kindness, generosity, volunteerism and collaborative collecting efforts of over 1500 Australian artists and significant arts philanthropy;
