Co-Video 2020 : A Collaborative Video Art Project

In this intense time of social restrictions, rapid change and mass actions, Co-Video is both a simple act of connecting through the medium of video, and a query of how our voices may be required to group together in different ways in this extreme climate and beyond. Curators Amelia Reid and Byron Coathup of The Field ARI invited artists from their local and online communities to submit a 1 – 3 minute video artwork. The project was a practical response of art as connectivity during this time of pandemic, closure of studio and gallery spaces, mass demonstrations and social distancing. The collaborative result is a 54-minute video experience of 28 short videos made by 30 artists from Australia and the UK. Co-Video was exhibited as a silent video projection between 18 July & 1 August 2020 at The Field ARI in Murwillumbah, NSW. The Field ARI

The Field is a curatorial collaboration between Murwillumbah based artists Amelia Reid and Byron Coathup. From 2019 to 2021 The Field was situated in studio 4 at M|Arts Precinct as a shared space housing a small bookshop, artist residency and exhibition program. The Field’s intention is to support artists in the borderlands area of Northern NSW and SE Qld, providing access to opportunities exhibit, connect and work, encouraging experimentation and contemporary discourse.

It is with a heavy heart that we have made the decision to close our studio at M|Arts in March 2021.

It has been amazing to develop an artist run space and bookshop, with programming including a studio residency, artists talks and workshops. It is now time for us to focus our energies towards new paths while we plan to keep The Field projects just as relevant in our lives. Byron has taken on a new role at the soon to open HOTA Gallery on the Gold Coast. Amelia is preparing for her solo exhibition at Tweed Regional in May and has a new casual role with Richmond Tweed Regional Libraries.

The Field is rewilding. We are steering The Field into an organic project that we aspire will allow us to curate projects and experiences in new and random locations. The Field remains a collaboration between Amelia and Byron with hopes to explore our new vision for our projects and growing collaborations with artists.
