As an artist, art worker or audience participant, you are invited to participate in the Tranceplant History Project.
We are calling for expressions of interest to support the documentation of this pivotal multi-disciplinary event held at the New Farm Powerhouse between 19 August – 3rd September, 1994.
The project aims to recognise artists and art workers by documenting, analysing and celebrating Tranceplant. This monumental event brought together some of Australia’s most innovative and experimental, visual, installation and performance artists, as well as contributing to the development of Brisbane Powerhouse as a hub for arts and culture in Brisbane.

This project is a recipient of the Brisbane City Council Brisbane History Grant 2019-2020.

BACKGROUND
Tranceplant was a large-scale site-specific cross platform arts event the likes of which had not been seen in Brisbane or Australia before. The event ran for 10 nights from 19 August – 3rd September in 1994.
The directors of Omniscient Gallery, Andy Forbes, James Dabrowski and Richard Mansfield, supported by a grant from Arts Queensland, curated and produced both fringe and professional arts practice, flaunting experimental circus, independent music performance art, festival art, dance, fashion video art experimental theatre, and – instinctive to the directors who all came from a visual arts background – the fine arts.
Drawing from those many art forms the event, albeit unintentionally, created a unique happening and influenced what would become the Prometheus of the Brisbane Powerhouse.
