Vale Damien Ledwich – Visionary artist, designer, cartoonist, illustrator, peer, 4ZZZ presenter
Damien Ledwich b. 1956-d. 22 March 2017
Sadly artist, storyteller and social observer colleague Damien Ledwich has passed away at age sixty. Damien was an active participant in the indie media, activism, artist-run, arts and culture scene in Brisbane and South-East Queensland throughout the 198os. Please kindly share your memories, vignettes and tributes below.
On a personal note, it was the inclusion of Damien’s striking designs in the This Work Was exhibition at That Contemporary Art Space in October 1985; curated by artists Brian Doherty and John Waller that introduced me to the wonderful Damien and in turn the extensive socially engaged art and design collaborations Damien was deeply immersed in at the time; including The Activities Centre, Semper Floreat, 4ZZZ Radio Collective, ZIP Collective, The Cane Toad Times and many others. We shared a conversation recently about continuing the conversation about Damien’s extensive art, 4ZZZ, graphics, illustration, observational and cartoonist work in that period.
You can read/download more about Damien’s vibrant long-term and intensive collaboration with the Cane Toad Times second collective here:
