BINTA | Featuring works by Roberta Joy Rich, H.Mur, Omar Raf Diallo, Gianna Hayes and Richmond Kobla Dido | Curl Curl Creative Space April 2022
“BINTA” opens its doors on Wednesday 20th of April at Curl Curl Creative Space. Join us for the opening night on Saturday 23 April, 4- 6pm.
Featuring works by Roberta Joy Rich, H.Mur, Omar Raf Diallo, Gianna Hayes and Richmond Kobla Dido, the exhibition Binta, explores themes of defiance, agency, self-determination and ingenuity as present in the work of artists living and working in Australia of African ancestry.
Through an artist-led curation, Binta celebrates the contemporary practices of a selection of African voices working across media in Australia.
The exhibition is open from Wednesday, 20 April 2022 – 10:00am to Sunday, 1 May 2022 – 4:00pm.

Alongside the exhibition, artist Gianna C Hayes will be running a Natural Dye workshop on Saturday 23 of April the Creative Space.
Gianna extracts natural pigments derived from our earth to translate its healing colour onto textiles. She explores ancient techniques using botanicals, herbs, plant matter, food waste, minerals and non-toxic metals.
In this workshop attendees will explore the chemistry and intuitive process of extracting pigments from various herbs, flowers and plant matter through the process of bundle dyeing. In this session participants will deepen their connection to the plant world through transforming a scarf into their own unique eco imprint.
