Imagine That – M.O.C.A and That Space collaboration – 1987

Imagine That was a group show of artists at the Museum of Contemporary Art ( M.O.C.A) in December 1987. Comprising wall based installations, photography, painting and 3d words this museum artist-run collaboration included many of the artists who had worked in the artist studios upstairs at That Contemporary Art Space in the preceding three years.  And included many of the artists who had exhibited in the That Space gallery program during that time.

Independent Art Collector and M.O.C.A Director James Baker was an active, passionate and supportive patron of the diverse artist-run scene in Brisbane and during the years that MOCA; a non- commercial museum gallery and cafe precinct located at 164 Melbourne Street, South Brisbane, was in operation (1987- 1994) James and his team worked tirelessly exhibiting, collecting and promoting artists: emerging, mid-career and senior practitioners. It was a meeting place and most convivial home for arts and culture diversity.

M.O.C.A provided many artists at the time with exhibition and professional development opportunities in a professional museum-setting not available to emerging artists and artist-runs in Brisbane during the 1980s. The Young Artists Gallery was a gallery space dedicated to emerging artists and collaboration.

Artist-run related exhibitions and events at MOCA 1987-1994 include:
