Welcome to the Cane Toad Times Magazine 2024.
Between 1977 and 1990, the Cane Toad Times was the Eccentric Voice that countered the conservative authoritarianism of the Bjelke-Petersen regime with biting satire, irreverent cartoons, literary experiments and gutter journalism. Some survivors, and a few new friends, have been stirred by the many threats to humanity’s continued existence on Earth to bring out the Cane Toad END Times edition with the same weird humour and inquisitive eye.
We published 22 issues in the 70s and 80s when Special Branch, the Drug Squad and Task Force were poking their heavily-armed, Hawaiian-shirted selves into everyone’s business. Particularly if your business was bringing down the neo-Fascist, well at least highly authoritarian, government of Queensland. We saw off Joh and that’s got to count for something in this crazy world.
To get back to now. Many highly talented people, and the usual coterie of ranting ideologues, have offered their words and graphics.
