BIO

Maria Cleary has freelanced as a Brisbane based designer and maker for more than 35 years and offers a breadth of experience in theatrical, exhibition, public art, and cultural event design and
delivery.

Maria’s professional journey began with her interest in, and considerable knowledge of costume, fashion and textiles, but her ability to think creatively, understand materials, get organised,
respond to a brief and work with a team has taken her down all sorts of interesting visual art, design and production paths since the heady days of the 1980s! She became a one-person
company (Maria Cleary Design Pty Ltd) in 1999, and to complement her increasing engagement with the cultural heritage sector, completed her Grad Dip Museum Studies (Deakin University) in 2009.

Maria is a highly experienced provider of design, planning, production and project management services in response to a diverse range of design and production briefs across the creative
industries.

Since 2016, Maria has managed the Queensland Performing Arts Centre Museum, curating and designing exhibitions as well as caring for the QPACM heritage collection. She has also maintained her own visual arts practice, which is primarily concerned with natural materials and textiles.
