EXTRA

EXTRA IS AN AUSTRALIAN NETWORKED ZINE COLLABORATION BUILDING FROM PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE ‘LIVING’ ARCHIVAL ART INITIATIVES. IN PARTICULAR, EXTRA ZINE BUILDS OUT FROM EXTENSIVE ARI REMIX MEMORY WORK COLLABORATIONS 2011-2021.

We are thrilled and delighted to launch recent memory work [active archival work] produced in zine format at this years Brisbane Writers Festival 2023.

EXTRA zine collaborations aim to place added emphasis on the hidden histories, marginalised narratives and digitised artists’ ephemera – ‘at risk’ artists’ ephemera – safeguarded in the personal archives of artists, artworkers and allies.

Activists, co-creatives among many others who were directly involved in the expanded and expanding Queensland/Australian artist-run ecology in the 1940 to Now temporality.

2023 Friends who are joining us at the zine market table:

Marisa Georgiou Bio:

Marisa works in creative and cultural community development in Meanjin/Brisbane. Their current practice is concerned with how to artfully navigate contemporary oppressions which affect how our social and material landscapes look and feel. To do so, they draw broadly from aesthetic theory, transformative social change, and therapeutic or spiritual modalities. They work across disciplines such as improvisational performance, social practice, publishing and installation inside and outside institutions, and often collaboratively. They like toolkits, textures, sensory elements, social/systemic pattern recognitions, personal enquiries and candid conversations that get beneath.

BVAA Bio:

BVAA (Brisbane Visual Arts Advocacy) is three artists practising in Meanjin/Brisbane who are keen to talk and write about how our local art industry works. We started at the beginning of the pandemic, then sorta got tired, but are now reviving slowly. We are full of love for our scene but think it still has some knots to work out.
