Opened by Queensland Art Gallery Director Doug Hall who encouraged the need for a permanent artist-run central city studio and gallery space with potential social housing for artists and spoke about QAG Gallery 14 and QAG Artist Studio as playing an important role for experimental art practice .

 

 

 

 

[Bureau] was a three month artist-run initiative implemented with the assistance of Lindy Johnson, Bernice Durand, Pat Hoffie, Carroll Doyle at the Queensland Artworkers Alliance (QAA) and Stockland (Macquarie) Pty. Ltd.

[Bureau] was run by a core group of artist activists and curators and throughout it’s program included many other artists from Brisbane and Sydney working with installation, video art, sound art and performance, musicians, writers, poets and photo documentation. Events included exhibitions, installation art, opening nights, performances, video art programs, 60 Second Landscapes, Travel Posters, Decorative Cakes and an artist swap meet for arts materials.

Artists included Michelle Andringa, Peter Callas, Eugene Carchesio, Scott Clifford, Crux, John Dean, Richard Grayson, Ross Harley, Donald Holt, Michael Hutak, Jim Knox, Krowd Kontrol Kontractors, Kristos Nizamis, Joseph O’Connor, Benjamin Paulsen, George Pavlu, Ravi Sidhu, Wayne Smith, David Stafford, John Stafford, Richard Stringer, Linda Wallace, Gary Warner, Mark Zervoudakis.
