GGG QUEER COLLECTIVE, ARTIST RUN INITIATIVE
Collectively the exhibition seeks to honour our Queer Peers and forebears. Not just the famous or obvious ones but also those they have come to represent, the outsiders the ones that don’t always fit in.
The GGG COLLECTIVE was established in 2015/2016 as a response to a preserved absence of the art of protest in contemporary Pride events. We have been “conspiring”, since then, to re-establish the traditional June Pride, centred around Stonewall Day and its
progressive [trans] gendered, People of Colour led protest roots.
Original members, Hillary Green [praise be] (visual artist), Mary Alexander [visual artist & Drag King], Jessica Astrid (visual & performance artist], Josephine McKinnon (circus artist) have been joined by many artists since.
Many of these artists are featured in our Heroin Wall, along with our other friends, supporters and ‘influenzas’. This Pride, the GGG COLLECTIVE includes Clare O’Callaghan and the small objects of Sarah Murphy [Auburn In Love]. A special edition book by Evelyn Hartough and an exclusive remote performance installation from Kirsty Kross via Norway. The exhibition also features a portrait by April Giblin of our beloved Hillary Green and our own tributes to Queer Sainy Marsha P. Johnson. Additionally, Libby Harward’s works “road signs of stolen country” delineate this exhibition bringing outsiders in.
