SAVE AS: Zine Making With the Women’s Art Register With Melbourne Now 2023

ARCHIVES COPY

SAVE AS zine was created and designed by Claudia Pharès and Sahra Martin, both members of the Women’s Art Register Committee at the time. The zine was developed to engage and educate the audience about WAR and leaving a legacy. The zine-making event was conducted for a collaboration between the Women’s Art Register and NGV Melbourne NOW event (2023).

Are you interested in leaving your mark on the world? Do you want to inspire others and share a passion? Drop by Community Hall and create your SAVE AS: Zine. You can leave your zine with us to keep in the Women’s Art Register archive or take it home. A colouring-in activity will also be provided for younger participants.

Throughout their collaboration with Melbourne Now, the Women’s Art Register (W.A.R.) will show how they preserve the legacy of all artists who identify as women (cis and trans inclusive) or gender diverse through documenting their work.

You are warmly invited to meet W.A.R. committee members to look at their publications and example of artists’ files, enquire about membership, discuss upcoming projects and work with on your zine.

About the Women’s Art Register

The Women’s Art Register is Australia’s living archive of women’s art practice and an artist-run, not-for-profit community and resource. Assessed as a ‘Collection of National Significance’ in 2009 by the Heritage Collections Council, this unique archive houses documentation of over 5000 predominantly Australian artists from the mid-19th century until now. Situated at the Richmond Library, the collection is accessible to everyone by appointment, and anyone is invited to submit material on women’s art.

Since 1975, W.A.R. has provided an inclusive, independent platform for research, education, advocacy and support, enhancing the status of women artists and addressing issues of equity, professional practice and cultural heritage.
